When you use the body panel of a legendary and very rare car to create a watch, it must be something special. This Christopher Ward C9 DB4 1VEV Limited Edition is an homage to the Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato. Only 19 cars where produced from 1960 to 1963 and 3 of them had the license plate number 1VEV. They were especially prepared for racing.

The Italian coachbuilder Zagato transformed the original Aston Martin DB4 GT into a smaller, more aerodynamic, super lightweight car. A lot of the steel components were replaced by aluminium counterparts and almost all non-essential elements, such as bumpers, disappeared. With the help of Perspex and aluminium components the DB4 GT Zagato was more than 45 kilograms lighter than the DB4 GT. The 1VEV’s were raced at Goodwood by both Stirling Moss and Roy Salvadori in 1961.

Christopher Ward was able to get a body part of one of the 1VEV Zagatos and transformed it into little pieces in the shape of the steering wheel of the DB4. It is visible through the museum-grade, sapphire-crystal exhibition caseback. And yes, because there were only 19 DB4 GT Zagatos produced, this Christopher Ward model is limited to 19 pieces.

The Christopher Ward C9 DB4 1VEV Limited Edition has a 43-mm, marine-grade stainless steel case with a brushed crown and a non-reflective sapphire crystal. Its matte black dial features contrasting white speedometer-style numerals and a fuel-gauge-inspired power-reserve display at 6 o’clock.

Inside is the automatic ETA Valgranges A07.161 caliber, with a 46-hour power-reserve, and a rotor enhanced with Côtes de Genève and painted in Aston Martin green. Each watch has the ‘1VEV’ license plate number and engine number, along with the model’s serial number (xx/19) engraved in the case back. And it is sold out, according to Christopher Ward’s website.
