We love cars. So we also love watches inspired on cars. Like this Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Limited Edition. Indeed, it is inspired by the iconic Jaguar D-Type.

The Jaguar D-Type was one of the first sports cars to use aeronautical techniques to improve performance. That is why the car looks like a dolphin. Or a shark. Or whatever, it looks smooth, angry and great. Take a look at Wiki. The D-Type was built between 1954 and 1957 and won Le Mans in 1955, 1956 and 1957. So it was quick, and dominant.

There are 55 pieces of the Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Limited Edition as 55 was a Le Mans winning year for the Jaguar D-Type

Christopher Ward was able to obtain a piece from a piston of one of the 18 factory racing cars. As they had a straight-six 3.4 liter engine (later models had a 3.6), these pistons are big. With metal laser-cut techniques they reshaped the piston into 55 slices in the shape of the car’s distinctive alloy wheel-spinner. This is visible through the museum-grade crystal exhibition back of the watch. It is a kind of the same trick CW used for its DB4 1VEV Limited Edition, with a part of the legendary Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato.

There are, but you already understood that, 55 pieces of the Christopher Ward C9 D-Type Limited Edition. 55 refers to 1955 when the most memorable Le Mans victory with the D-Type took place, with Mike Hawthorn driving. And there is more D-Type on and in this C9. The dial design is based on the speedometer of the D-Type. There is a signature racing decal design at 12 o’clock. Not typically D-Type, but racy enough. It has a fuel tank-style power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock, and a unique serial number and ‘D-Type Le Mans Winner’ engraved on the back plate.

The ETA Valgranges A07.161 self-winding movement powers the C9 D-Type Limited Edition. It gives a power-reserve of 48 hours. The case size is 43 millimeters. You can pre-order it for mid-October.
