This is without a doubt one of the best dress watches we have seen in a long time. The Chopard L.U.C XP is elegant in all its simplicity, but with a serious pedigree.

The Chopard L.U.C XP is part of the manufactures high-end collection. Designer Guy Bove did some good work with a silver-toned dial, large blued numerals and blue Dauphine fusée-type hands. This casual chic color combination is supplemented by a blue cashmere or blue alligator leather strap. And it has a 40-millimeter stainless steel case. Which is not common for the L.U.C collection.

The Chopard L.U.C XP uses a new movement

The new design is powered by a new movement. The L.U.C 96.53-L to be precise. The movement is comprising two stacked barrels guaranteeing a 58-hour power-reserve. Accommodating such a self-winding movement within an ultra-thin 7.20-millimeter case is possible by an ingenious micro-rotor construction ensuring greater visibility of the movement. The latter is made of tungsten, a sturdy high-density material enabling enhanced movement winding.

An haute horlogerie movement that can be admired via the open sapphire case back. A complexity that differs totally from the clean and minimalistic dial.

A ‘simple’ watch? Yes, perhaps. But with great legibility, even better style and the use of blue – a color that is getting more and more popular – Chopard delivered a great watch with restraint in terms of design. A trait some other watchmakers should follow. That leaves just the price, if the watch would have been one to two thousand dollars less, Chopard would have had a hit in hands.
