This Panerai Lab-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech 3 Days has a 50-years guarantee as it needs no external lubrication. Which is rather unique for a mechanical watch.

For the movement Panerai uses different materials and coatings based on carbon. This enables a minimum of friction between the components of the watch. And carbon is not only used on the inside, the large 49-millimeter case is also from carbon. Panerai calls it carbotech, a material often used for the brakes of racing cars. It is a composite material obtained from very thin sheets of carbon fiber compressed together with a special polymer at a controlled temperature. This technique makes each case unique as it has dense, uneven, black patterns that randomly arise during the making.

The Panerai Lab-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech 3 Days is full of carbon

Carbon, or carbotech is light in weight, also hypo-allergenic and it is not subject to corrosion. Besides that, it has exceptional mechanical properties. The main changes to a conventional mechanical watch are the two spring barrels that have a multi-layer coating, the uppermost one being DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon). The main components of the escapement are from silicon and the wheel-work has a DLC coating as well. The bridges and plate are made from a composite material integrating a tantalum-based ceramic. The result can be seen through the transparent case back.

The dial is covered with carbon nanotubes. It is a sort of material structure arranged to absorb light and minimize reflection. That is why the dial of this Panerai Lab-ID Luminor 1950 Carbotech 3 Days is extremely black. The blue hands and hour markers contrast very well.

An innovative technical masterpiece like this Panerai comes with a price: 50.000 euros or almost 55,000 US dollars. It sounds like a good offer considering it is limited to 50 pieces and never needs to be serviced at all. The video below shows it all.
