To mark the beginning of the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dragon, UN introduces the Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon. Since the launch of the Blast collection in 2020, the brand showed a unique design. With a distinguished X figure visible on the dial side and on the back. Which has become a signature structure of the line. This watch, limited to 88 pieces, is associated with the age-old mystique from Chinese traditions, with a dragon captivating a pearl.
In Chinese culture, the dragon is a powerful and benevolent creature symbolizing strength, good fortune, and protection. The pearl it guards is often referred to as the “flaming pearl” or “dragon’s pearl”. Representing wisdom, enlightenment, and spiritual energy. One interpretation of the symbolism is that the dragon, with its presence, safeguards the precious pearl, signifying the protection of valuable knowledge or enlightenment.
The same goes for the new Blast Tourbillon Dragon. The enchanting mythical creature, crafted by hand in rose gold, twists around and moves through the skeletonized X shape. Almost as if is emerging from the inner workings. In front of it, the pearl is securely held between its five-clawed hands. And the pearl is positioned prominently atop the flying tourbillon’s cage.
The Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon has a power reserve of 72 hours
Beneath the dragon is an automatic Ulysse Nardin caliber UN-172. Which can be partly observed through its open-worked dial and transparent case back. The platinum micro-rotor noticeable at 12 o’clock can also be viewed. The flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock takes advantage of the brand’s skills in making parts from silicon.
Initially introduced in 2001 with the Freak model, this material, applied to the escapement wheel, pallet fork, and balance spring, brings additional improvements in performance and durability. The power reserve is 72 hours.
The Ulysse Nardin Blast Tourbillon Dragon is presented on a black alligator strap. It is fastened with a 5N rose gold and black PVD titanium folding clasp. Additionally, you will get an extra black rubber “velvet” strap.
