To celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year, Chopard unveils the Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon. The Year of the Dragon is one of the Chinese zodiac signs, and it is associated with certain personality traits, characteristics, and cultural significance. The Chinese zodiac operates on a 12-year cycle, and each year is assigned to one of twelve animals. The Year of the Dragon recurs every 12 years, and the most recent Year of the Dragon occurred in 2012.
The L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon timepiece has a case made of rose gold measuring 39.5 millimeters. Its dial features a handcrafted dragon furnished with Urushi lacquer, gold powder and mother-of-pearl inlays. Minori Koizumi, an expert of doing Maki-e technique, skillfully handcrafts the exquisite dial in Japan.
What is Urushi?
Urushi is a traditional Japanese lacquer technique that has been used for centuries to create decorative and functional items. The term “Urushi” refers to the sap extracted from the lacquer tree, commonly known as the Urushi tree. The technique involves the application of multiple layers of this natural lacquer to create a glossy and durable finish.

Inside runs the automatic Chopard caliber L.U.C 96.17-L which can be admired through its transparent sapphire case back. The movement has a thickness of only 3.30 millimeters which keeps the watch’s slim profile at just 6.80 millimeters. It beats at its high frequency of 4 Hz delivering a power reserve of 65 hours.
The Chopard L.U.C XP Urushi Year of the Dragon is available with a black alligator leather strap (matt) with hand sewn matching tones. It is secured with an 18-carat rose gold pin buckle.
