To recognize the Year of the Dragon, Breguet presents the special edition Breguet Classique 5345 Lunar New Year 2024. It is an addition to the Classique “Grande Complication” collection. Crafted in platinum, this timepiece also features an engraved golden dragon on the dial side. As in the Chinese culture, the dragon is a powerful and highly symbolic creature with positive connotations and the symbol of this new year.
But the dial of the 5345 Lunar New Year has much more to tell. Aside from the hand-engraved dragon, you can also see a pearl of mother-of-pearl tightly held by the dragon’s claws. The dragon and pearl are elements commonly found in various myths, legends, and folktales in Chinese tradition. However, there isn’t a specific universally known story that combines both elements. But there is a general interpretation of the symbolism associated with each.
The Breguet Classique 5345 Lunar New Year 2024 has a power reserve of 60 hours
The open dial also features two independent tourbillons connected by a bridge to a central plate completing a full rotation in 12 hours. Which is also a homage to the inventor of the tourbillon, originally introduced in 1801 by Abraham-Louis Breguet. By the way, the double tourbillon on a Breguet watch was first revealed in 2006.
Visible through its dial and case back is a hand-wound Breguet caliber 588N1. It is equipped with twin rotating tourbillons as mentioned above, with a primary purpose to improve the accuracy and performance of the watch. And it has a hand-guilloché plate, engraved allegorical motif. The power reserve is 60 hours.
The Breguet Classique 5345 Lunar New Year 2024 comes on a black alligator leather strap. Breguet calls the model a Special Edition, which might be a unique piece. But we are not sure.
