This Arnold & Son Tourbillon Chronometer No. 36 is a contemporary horological homage to the Arnold 36. Because 239 years ago John Arnold made his Chronometer No. 1/36, also known as Arnold 36. A pocket watch with a great accuracy for that time, which probably made him decide to call it chronometer. Which now stands for a watch that passed certain tests to assure its accuracy, at that time it might have been a neologism for an accurate timepiece.

The homage edition has no further similarities with the original except for the case material. The pocket chronometer had a 22k gold case, this new Arnold & Son Tourbillon Chronometer No. 36 is available in 18k red gold. Or stainless steel. Okay, the new model is very accurate too, as it features a tourbillon and it is a COSC certified chronometer. Which is rather unique for a tourbillon; it is not obvious such a precious mechanism can withstand the COSC test procedures.

This Arnold & Son Tourbillon Chronometer No. 36 comes in red gold or stainless steel, both limited to 28 pieces

The open-worked dial offers a great view on the A&S8600 caliber. It has a sand-blasted main plate and bridges with chamfered and polished edges. The main plate and bridges are treated with a golden coating and the main plate is also set with several mirror-polished 18k gold chatons. The wheels in the gear train are embellished with circular satin finishing with chamfered and polished edges. Two barrels provide a 90-hour power-reserve.

The Arnold & Son Tourbillon Chronometer No. 36 is limited to 56 pieces, 28 in each version.

Here you can read about the history of Arnold & Son, as it appears that John Arnold is somehow not really connected to the brand.
